Cardinals in College Station for Sunday Showdown With Aggies

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University will face another big test Sunday travels to College Station, Texas, to square off against Texas A&M. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. from Ellis Field and will be streamed live on the SEC Network. 

PREVIOUSLY

The Cardinals fell 4-1 in their season opener to UL Lafayette. Despite getting a 1-0 lead on a Lauren Smith goal with the assist from Annika Kassenbrock, Big Red allowed four unanswered goals. LU was also outshot 12-5 during the match. Eloise Bywater recorded a pair of saves in her first career start.

LAUREN SMITH

Lauren Smith's goal in the 24th minute on her second shot of the game was her first goal in the Lamar Red and White after transferring in from Meridian Community College. She scored 37 goals and dished out 17 assists in 33 games with the Lady Eagles over the last two seasons. 

ALL-TIME vs. TEXAS A&M

The Cardinals are 0-2 all-time against Texas A&M. Last season on Aug. 15th, LU hosted the Aggies at the LU Soccer Complex, dropping a 5-0 decision. 

ABOUT THE AGGIES

The Aggies opened the 2024 season with a 1-1 draw against Baylor. Leah Diaz netted the goal in the fourth minute of the contest before the Bears responded with an equalizer in the 81st minute. One key player for A&M is Kaylee Noble, who was named to the United Soccer Coaches Preseason All-America Watch List. Last season, the former Cal State Fullerton forward scored six goals and three assists in 20 matches for the Titans. She also topped the shots (45) and shots on goal (23) categories at Fullerton. 

UP NEXT

The Cardinals conclude their opening three-game road trip by heading down on I-10 to San Antonio to visit the Roadrunners on the following Sunday. The match kicks off at 7 p.m.
