SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Down 4-0 in the fourth, Lamar University rallied back to defeat the University of the Incarnate Word, 8-5, in 10 innings Friday afternoon at Sullivan Field.
UIW went up 1-0 on a solo home run in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the third, UIW extended its lead with an RBI single to right center.
UIW pushed across two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-0.
Tab Tracy was hit by pitch to start things off in the top of the sixth. He later stole second to setup the one-out RBI double to center by
Zane Spinn.
Damian Ruiz and
Brayden Evans delivered back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to one run.
Pinch runner
Kameryn Henderson tied up the game in the eighth by scoring on a passed ball.
Lamar later took a 5-4 lead when Tracy hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Ruiz.
UIW tied up the score at five-all in the bottom half of the eighth on an RBI single.
Lamar regained the lead in the top of the 10th when Tracy brought in Ruiz on a fielder's choice.
Zak Skinner then followed up with an RBI double to right center. Skinner later scored on a wild pitch.
Fabian Ramirez retired the final seven batters to seal up the victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
- LU ended up with 13 hits.
- Ruiz went 2 for 4 with a single, home run, two walks and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and on base streak to 27 games.
