Cardinals surge past Tulane, 14-4

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Lamar University improved to 8-0 in midweek contests after it defeated the Tulane Green Wave, 14-4, Tuesday night at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

This was LU's first win over Tulane since Feb. 25, 1994.

The Cards began knocking on the door early as Damian Ruiz drew a leadoff walk and then Brayden Evans hit a single through the right side.

Reese Beheler moved the runners over with a groundout to setup a walk drawn by Zak Skinner to load up the bases.

Zane Spinn brought in the first run of the game with an RBI single through the right side.

Bryce Grizzaffi added to the inning with a single to shallow right that brought in two runs to extend the lead to 3-0.

Tulane answered back in the bottom half of the first with an RBI double to left center by Andrew McKenna.

Ruiz hit a one-out double to right and then Evans drew a walk in the top of the second. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch.

Zak Skinner then took the ball the other way for a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Green Wave answered back in the bottom half of the second by scoring three runs on three hits to cut the deficit to one run.

With one out in the top of the third, Grizzaffi drew a walk and then Matt Ryan was hit by a pitch.

Tab Tracy hit an RBI single up the middle.

Ruiz came up and then hit an inside-the-park three-run home run past the diving right fielder to make the score 9-4.

LU's potent offense continued to deliver as Spinn crushed a 413-feet solo home run to right center in the top of the fourth.

Ryan later hit an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to seven runs.

The Cardinals extended their lead to 10 runs in the top of the eighth when Logan Hamm delivered a pinch-hit two-RBI single through the right side.
