ORLANDO, Fla. – Lamar University traveled to Orlando, Fla, for two matches opening with Western Carolina Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Catamounts were too strong posting a 4-0 victory over Big Red.
WCU took an opening lead after grabbing the doubles points. The Cardinals battled back after taking sets on singles courts 1 and 3. Freshman
Asta Miettinen took the second set on court No. 3 to force a third while classmate
Arina Gudovskaya won a tiebreaker in the second also forcing a third. Unfortunately, Lamar needed more help on the other courts but it didn't arrive as though to matches were halted when Western Carolina took wins on courts 4,5 and 6 for the team victory.
Lamar will look to rebound Friday when they return to the court to take on South Dakota. The match against the Coyotes will begin at 11 a.m.
