BEAUMONT, Texas — It was the first extra-inning game of the season for the Lamar University Cardinals.
With the score tied up at 4-4 in the bottom of the 10th and runners at second and third,
Zak Skinner hit a chopper to second to bring in
Trent Baker to lift the Cardinals to a 5-4 victory over New Mexico State on Wednesday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Starting pitcher
Kyle Moseley was dealing, striking eight of the 12 batters he faced.
Meanwhile, the offense got a run in the bottom of the second after a leadoff double by
Reese Beheler,
Heladio Moreno hit an RBI single through the left side.
The Aggies flipped the script in the top of the fourth when they scored two runs without tallying a single hit.
NM State pushed across another run on a bunt single to make the score 3-1 in the top of the fifth.
LU took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh when
Damian Ruiz drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left.
Brayden Evans then delivered a clutch two-RBI double to right.
The Aggies tied up the score in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to left.
To setup up the walk off in the 10th,
Zane Spinn had a leadoff single while
Reese Beheler hit a ground-rule double down the right field line to put runners in scoring position.
