RUSTON, La. — It came down to the final inning with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs threatening to tie up the game.
On a two-out single to left,
Kameryn Henderson fired the ball to his relay man
Zane Spinn who threw a dart to
Zak Skinner for the final out.
The Lamar University Cardinals extended their winning streak to eight games with a 6-5 victory over the Bulldogs on Monday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The Cards took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first after
Damian Ruiz scored on a ground out to short.
Louisiana Tech went ahead 3-0 on two hits in the bottom half of the first.
With two outs in the top of the third, Skinner and
Reese Beheler delivered back-to-back RBI singles up the middle.
Spinn then beat out an infield single to second that also brought in a run to give LU a 4-3 lead.
After a double to left center by Ruiz,
Brayden Evans crushed a two-run home run down the right field line to give the Cards a three-run lead in the top of the fourth.
Louisiana Tech cut the deficit to one run with an RBI double to center in the eighth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Cards finished with 12 hits.
- Evans went 4 for 5 with three singles, a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
- Ruiz extended his hitting streak to 10 games by going 2 for 5 with two doubles.

- The LU bullpen finished with six strikeouts. Fabian Ramirez had two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
- This was LU's first win over Louisiana Tech since March 14, 2006. Louisiana Tech had won the last four meetings.
- LU had not played Louisiana Tech since 2012. The Cards trail the all-time series, 51-61.
