Cardinals hold off Louisiana Tech for 6-5 victory

RUSTON, La. — It came down to the final inning with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs threatening to tie up the game.

On a two-out single to left, Kameryn Henderson fired the ball to his relay man Zane Spinn who threw a dart to Zak Skinner for the final out.

The Lamar University Cardinals extended their winning streak to eight games with a 6-5 victory over the Bulldogs on Monday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

The Cards took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Damian Ruiz scored on a ground out to short.

Louisiana Tech went ahead 3-0 on two hits in the bottom half of the first.

With two outs in the top of the third, Skinner and Reese Beheler delivered back-to-back RBI singles up the middle.

Spinn then beat out an infield single to second that also brought in a run to give LU a 4-3 lead.

After a double to left center by Ruiz, Brayden Evans crushed a two-run home run down the right field line to give the Cards a three-run lead in the top of the fourth.

Louisiana Tech cut the deficit to one run with an RBI double to center in the eighth.
