Alex Shillow Named Senior Associate AD for Development

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Alex Shillow has been named Lamar University Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development announced Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeff O'Malley Thursday morning. A rising name in collegiate athletics, Shillow joins the Lamar University family after spending the previous 15 months as the associate athletics director at the University of the Incarnate Word.

"I am very excited to name Alex as our senior associate athletics director for development," said O'Malley. "Throughout this process, Alex's name kept jumping to the top of the list. He not only brings experience from different levels of college athletics, including the Southland Conference, he brings the unique perspective of being a former college athlete himself. He brings the right mix of experience, leadership and relationship building we are looking for in this position."

Over the course of the past five years Shillow has worked in collegiate athletics with stops at Texas A&M-Commerce (now East Texas A&M), Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), North Texas and UIW, most recently in San Antonio where he secured $375,000 in capital support within a short period of time toward facility enhancements. He also spearheaded a fundraising campaign that totaled $1 million for athletic projects.

Shillow was also placed in charge of UIW's Tartan Society – the primary giving group for the athletics department. During his time in San Antonio, Shillow increased membership by more than 150 percent.

Prior to his move to UIW, he spent six months in Denton serving as the assistant AD for development at North Texas. During his brief time with the Mean Green, Shillow served as the major gift officer who managed a portfolio of 100 prospects and donors and successfully initiated a new fund structure which increased scholarship funding by 150 percent.

"I am excited and blessed to join the Cardinal family at Lamar University," said Shillow. "Having family roots in this community makes this opportunity incredibly special. There is tremendous momentum surrounding the athletic department, and I am grateful to Dr. Jaime Taylor, Jeff O'Malley and Juan Zabala for the chance to serve alongside them. We will be relentless in our pursuit of excellence to connect with the Lamar faithful and help drive the continued success of our student-athletes."

Shillow began his career at his alma mater, where he began as a development assistant before moving to UAB as the assistant director of development before being promoted to the associate director.

Lamar was assisted in the search process by Game One and its University Advantage program.
