NEW ORLEANS, La. — Lamar volleyball's 10-game winning streak came to a halt Saturday afternoon after suffering a sweep to the New Orleans Privateers at the Human Performance Center.
To start the first set, LU trailed 3-0 until using a 5-0 run to reverse the momentum.
Maja Malinowska tallied two kills during the run.
New Orleans then went on a 5-1 run to take the lead back.
Emily Moon put down a kill to get the Cardinals to within one point, but the Privateers used a 6-1 run to boost their lead to seven points.
The Cardinals had to play catch up as they fought back to cut the deficit to five points.
New Orleans closed out the set on a 3-0 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
LU found itself down 3-0 at the start of the second set. New Orleans used another 3-0 run to pull ahead to an early five point lead.
Back-to-back kills by
Lyric Jordan helped spark a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to two.
New Orleans scored three unanswered points to increase its lead to six points in the middle of the set.
The Cardinals answered back by going on a 4-0 run to trail by two. Malinowska tallied a kill during the run while
Daniella Udegbunam and
Alexa Gonzalez teamed up for a block and
Ceci Bustamante got a kill from the back row.
Jordan tallied back-to-back kills to put LU behind by one, but the Privateers closed out the set with a 6-1 run to have a 2-0 advantage.
LU came out with a 3-1 lead in the final set after kills by Jordan,
Sydnee Griffen and Malinowska.
New Orleans took a one-point lead by going on a 3-0 run. Malinowska then tied up the score with a kill.
The score was tied three more times until New Orleans went ahead by three points.
LU flipped the script with a 4-0 run that included a tandem block by
Riley Johnson and Griffen as well as a service ace from
Gabby Baker and back-to-back kills by Malinowska.
New Orleans surged ahead to a seven-point lead as it went on a 9-1 run.
The Cardinals managed to cut the deficit to four points with a 3-0 run, but it was too little too late.

- Malinowska tallied her 17th double-double of the season after she finished with 20 kills, 12 digs and one assist.
- Jordan added nine kills and one dig.
- Griffen tallied four kills, one block assist and four digs.
- Gonzalez recorded her 10th double-double of the season after tallying 30 assists, 16 digs, one service ace and one block assist.
- Keeley Nellis finished with 10 digs on the defensive end.
- Baker had nine digs, five assists and one service ace. She is now 39 digs away from tying the single season program record for digs (602 digs | Andrea Hamilton, 2007).
- The Cardinals recorded the fifth longest winning streak in program history, matching the 10-game winning streaks set in 1979 and 1983.
