Lamar to Have a Rocky Mountain Season Opener at Northern Colorado

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University women's basketball team will open its season Saturday as the Cardinals head out to Greeley, Colo., to take on Northern Colorado. The game will tip off at 3:00 p.m., central time and be streamed on ESPN+. 

EXHIBITION WIN 
The Cardinals hosted and delivered an 86-35 exhibition victory over NCAA DIII East Texas Baptist University at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center. Four players would post double-figures, including 12 from Solenne Olenga, Keyiona McDaniel and R'Mani Taylor while Kamryn Wilson added 11 points. 

ROAD OPENERS
This will be the first season LU opens on the road since 2022-23 when the Cardinals traveled to Waco to take on Baylor. All-time, the Cardinals have won three road openers with their last one coming in 1988. Since then, LU has lost 18 consecutive season openers on the road. 

ALL TIME vs. UNC
LU won two of the three meetings between the two sides. In the last meeting, the Cardinals used a dominant second half to beat the Bears 60-43. Jacei Denley led the Cardinals with 18 points on 7-10 shooting from the field. 

ABOUT NORTHERN COLORADO
The Bears exploded for 105 points against Northern New Mexico to open their campaign. Five players posted double figures with Heather Baymon tallying a game-high 21. Last season, they averaged 63.7 points per game and allowed just 61.1 ppg. In the last meeting between the two teams, the duo of Neenah George (10 pts) and Tatum West (12 pts) combined for 22 points.  

LONDON'S BIG GAMBLE
London Gamble led the Bears last season as the only double-digit scorer 10.5 ppg). This included a career-high 27 points against Sacramento State. She finished the year as a member of the All-Big Sky Honorable Mention team.   

UP NEXT
The Cardinals head east to Manhattan, Kan., to take on Kansas State Monday, Nov. 10th. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. and be streamed on ESPN+.
