BEAUMONT, Texas —
Rob Lee, Jr. came out with the hot hand Saturday night as he dropped 26 points and drained eight 3-pointers to help lead Lamar University to a 90-46 victory over Our Lady of the Lake at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center.
Lee, Jr. became the first Cardinal to make eight 3-pointers in a game since Brandon Davis in 2012.
The Cardinals, who were at home for the first time in 26 days, jumped out to a 22-2 lead after scoring 17 unanswered points.
LU knocked down three straight from beyond the arc, beginning with a trey from
Andrew Holifield, to increase the lead to 22 points.
Behind a 9-0 run, the Cardinals boosted their lead to 33 points.
During the run,
Eian Lowe and
Errol White grabbed one steal each that transitioned to a three from Lee, Jr. and a fastbreak layup by
Cody Pennebaker, respectively.
Later in the opening half, the Cardinals put together a 12-0 run that included four points from
Braden East and a pair of three-pointers from Lee, Jr.
East closed out the first half with a dunk to give the Cardinals a 43-point lead at the break.
LU knocked down eight 3-pointers in the first half while shooting 56 percent from the field.
East grabbed 10 rebounds to lead all players at the break as the Cardinals tallied 31 boards in the first half.
The Cardinals took their largest lead of the contest with 11:52 in the second half when White tallied a steal that led to a
Jayden Barrs layup to put LU ahead by 55.
Seven different players scored during the second half as East tallied eight points during the final half.
GAME NOTES
- Lee, Jr. matched a season-high total of 26 points which was last recorded against TCU.
- Lee, Jr. finished 9 for 10 from the field and 8 for 9 from beyond the arc.
- East recorded his second double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
- Holifield added nine points while he grabbed six rebounds and tallied four assists.
- B.B. Knight finished with eight points and two assists. Knight was also a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe.
- Janko Bulajic grabbed eight rebounds and tallied six points.
- Lowe tallied four steals while White had three.
- White and Jayden Gambrell also dished out four assists.
- Gambrell, Knight and East each had two blocks.
- The Cardinals finished with nine 3-pointers while they shot 5 for 12 from the free throw line.
- LU finished with 49 total rebounds (35 came on the defensive end).
- As a team, the Cardinals tallied a game-high 38 field goals made, 49 rebounds, 24 assists, 15 steals and nine blocked shots.
