BEAUMONT, Texas - After opening the season with three games on the road, Lamar University makes its home debut at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center Sunday against the UT Arlington Mavericks. The game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
PREVIOUSLY
The Cardinals fell 65-54 to Kansas in "Phog" Allen Fieldhouse Wednesday evening. Big Red trailed by four, 27-23 at halftime, but let the Jayhawks take command with a 23-9 third quarter.
Shaila Forman once again led the Cardinals in scoring with 13 points.
FORMAN IS A FRESHMAN
For the third game in a row, freshman
Shaila Forman was the Cardinals' leading scorer. During the second quarter against Kansas, Forman scored seven straight points that brought the Cardinals to within four at the half. She leads all freshmen in the conference and is currently third overall in the Southland Conference in scoring, averaging 16.7 ppg.
HOME OPENERS
All-time, LU holds a 41-13 record in its home opening contests. This includes a recent stretch of 10 wins in a row dating back to the 2015-16 campaign when the Cardinals defeated Louisiana College, 99-34. Big Red's average margin of victory during the last 10 contests is 48.3.
ALL TIME VS. UTA
The Cardinals are 19-24 in their history against UTA. The last meeting took place on Nov. 10, 2023, in Arlington when the Cardinals won 74-57.
T'Aaliyah Miner (10),
R'Mani Taylor (eight), and Jake Denley (five) combined for 23 points. Big Red last hosted UTA on Dec. 3, 2022, where the Mavericks escaped by four points.
ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
UTA won it's second straight game by defeating Tennessee State 78-58. Nya Threat led the way with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Reynolds leads UTA in scoring with 10.8 points per game and has also blocked 12 shots. The Mavericks average 63.5 points per game and have converted 43.8 percent from behind the three-point stripe.
