Aqua Franklin and the Lamar Cardinals are getting set to play the Kansas Jayhawks Wednesday at one of college basketball's historic venues – the Allen Fieldhouse. The game will start at 6:30 p.m.

The Cardinals played Kansas State tough in the first quarter on Monday, tying the game 20-20. However, the Wildcats finished the game on a 69-41 run to win 89-61. LU was held to 37.3 percent from the field.

For the second game in a row,
Shaila Forman led the Cardinals, scoring 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Through two games, the freshman from Baton Rouge, La., is averaging 18.5 points per game. Meanwhile, senior guard
R'Mani Taylor posted 11 points in Monday's contest.

Head coach
Aqua Franklin makes her return to Allen Fieldhouse after two previous stints with the Jayhawks' program. As an assistant coach in 2011-12, she helped KU to 21 wins and a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16. As an associate head coach, she mentored Jessica Washington to be the first Jayhawk to win Big XII Newcomer of the Year honors after scoring 19.3 points per game.
ABOUT KANSAS
The Jayhawks have started their season 2-0 after defeating Northwestern State, 75-60. The tandem of Jaliya Davis (28) and S'Mya Nichols (22) combined for 50 points. Davis's 28 points are also a career high, as she went 10-of-15 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
ALLEN FIELDHOUSE LIVES UP TO THE HYPE
Kansas is in the midst of a 35-game home winning streak against non-conference schools. The winning streak dates back to the 2015-16 season after KU lost to St. John's 86-71.
ALL TIME vs. THE JAYHAWKS
The Cardinals are 1-2 all-time against Kansas. The win came on December 19th, 1993 when LU hosted the Jayhawks and defeated them 78-72 in overtime. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since November 25, 2011.
UP NEXT
LU will have its first regular season home game as it will take on UT-Arlington Sunday at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center. The ball will be tipped at 2:00 p.m. and streamed live on ESPN+.
