Lamar Looking to Climb Up in Southland Standings Against Southeastern Louisiana

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University will look to make a big jump in Southland Conference standings as it will host Southeastern Louisiana, who sits tied for third, Thursday at the LU Soccer Complex. This match kicks off at 7:00 p.m., and will be streamed on ESPN+.

PREVIOUSLY
Big Red battled to a 1-1 draw with the Southland Conference's first-place Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Sunday. SFA took the early 1-0 lead before Lauren Smith scored the equalizer for LU in the 28th minute off a free kick. Freshman goalkeeper Eloise Bywater recorded six saves.

HOW MANY LAUREN SMITH GOALS DO WE SEE? 10? FOUR? FIVE IN SIX?
Smith's goal against SFA was her 10th of the year and also the second straight game she scored off a free-kick. It was the fourth-straight game and fifth in six contests that Lauren Smith found the back of the net. The Birmingham, England native is also tied for the conference lead in goals with Emily Senatore (Northwestern State). Smith is the first Cardinal to reach double-figure goals since both Christine Kitaru and Cariel Ellis achieved the feat back in 2022.

IF YOU AIN'T FIRST, YOU MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH
It took Smith 13 games to achieve her 10th goal of the season. This is the second fewest games a Cardinal has scored 10 goals, only trailing Esther Okoronkwo (2020) and Lucy Ashworth (2019), who each took 12 games to get to double digits.

ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
The Cardinals possess an 11-7-2 record all-time against the Lions. Last season, LU was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit in Hammond, La., falling, 2-1. Riley Wilson recorded the assist on the Cardinals' only goal of the match.

ABOUT SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
The Lions (3-5-3, 2-1-1) are currently one point ahead of Lamar in the conference standings after falling 2-1 to Northwestern State in its last match. Alexandria Knight scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute, which was her second goal of the season, while goalkeeper Kendall Curran posted four saves.

UP NEXT
