EDINBURG, Texas -
Erin Dull scored her first career goal Thursday evening against UT Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, but Lamar University would fall, 3-1, in the 2025 regular season finale. The loss means that LU will be the sixth seed in the upcoming Southland Conference tournament, which it will host.
Maddie Rich recorded three first-half saves in goal while LU (6-7-5, 3-3-4 SLC) took five shots throughout the match. Dull's goal was assisted by
Lauren Smith, who recorded her fifth of the year.
UTRGV (6-10-2, 3-6-1) took command of the first half by jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. The Vaqueros took seven shots, but Rich didn't allow the deficit to get any bigger as the two teams went into the locker room.
Both teams played tight defense in the second half, combining for three shots. UTRGV's lone shot in the 54th minute resulted in a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals were held without a shot for 31 minutes, until getting on the scoreboard in the 80th minute.
The Cardinals will begin their tournament run against the three-seed, Southeastern Louisiana, at the LU Soccer Complex Tuesday. This quarterfinal match will kick off at 7:00 pm and will be streamed on ESPN+.
