Maddie Rich (Goalkeeper) and
Lauren Smith (Offensive) were each named Southland Conference Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday morning. They earned the honor for their efforts in helping LU defeat then league-leading Northwestern State, 2-0. This is the second career honor for both players.
Rich (Katy, Texas) posted her second straight shutout of the season. The junior recorded three saves, including two in the 50th and 61st minutes, to keep the game scoreless. This was her fourth career shutout.
Smith (Birmingham, England) netted both goals in six minutes during the second half, which helped seal the victory for LU. She first scored in the 77th minute before adding a second in the 83rd. This was her second multi-goal game of the season and also thrust her back in the SLC goals lead with 12.Â
The Cardinals (6-6-5, 3-2-4 SLC) have clinched a spot in the upcoming conference tournament which will be hosted by Lamar this season. Big Red's will close out the 2025 regular season Thursday at UT Rio Grande Valley. The match will kick off at 6:30 p.m., and will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
