PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the second time in three weeks, Lamar University has been recognized with the STATS Perform FCS National and Southand Conference Special Teams Player of the Week awards. Senior kicker
Ben Woodard added his name to that list Monday morning.
It marks the second time in Woodard's career he has received the Southland's weekly honor and the eighth time this season a Cardinal has been named conference player of the week – with five of those being special teams honors.
Woodard scored 11 points in the Cardinals two-point Homecoming victory over UT Rio Grande Valley Saturday. He was a perfect 3-of-3 on field goals setting a new career long twice in the game. Among his three makes included two from at least 53 yards including a school-record tying long of 57 yards with 63 seconds remaining to win the game.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday when they travel to Natchitoches, La. to take on Northwestern State in a key conference matchup. Lamar enters the week with a 6-1 overall record and 3-0 in Southland Conference play – equaling its SLC start from head coach Pete Rossomando's first season on campus.
Saturday's game is the first of two straight on the road (at UIW, Nov. 1
st) as the Cardinals close out the year with three of their final five away from Beaumont.
