Cardinals Climb in Polls

| By:
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Shortly after receiving the good news that Lamar University had received a Southland Player of the Week honor for the seventh time this season (Ronnie Hamrick – SLC Defensive Player of the Week), the Cardinals also found out they had jumped in both major NCAA FCS Top 25 polls.

The Cardinals climbed to 17th in the STATS Perform Top 25 poll and 18th in the AFCA Coaches poll, both highwater marks for LU in each respective poll. It was a jump of three spots in the STATS Perform poll from the previous week and six in the coaches' poll.

The Cardinals made the jump following Saturday's thrilling come-from-behind win that saw Big Red lead for only three seconds but it was the final three seconds. After a penalty was called on ETAMU with 12 seconds on the clock (on a game-tying field goal), LU elected to take the points off the board and take another crack at the end zone.

On the second attempt, with time running out, sophomore Aiden McCown hit senior Kyndon Fuselier cutting across the middle for the score securing Lamar's second-straight last second victory in Commerce.

The win moves Lamar to 5-1 (.833) overall and 2-0 SLC on the season as it prepares for a Homecoming showdown against conference newcomer UT Rio Grande Valley. The Vaqueros are also 5-1 on the year but sit a loss back of Lamar in the conference standings (1-1). Saturday's game will kick off at 3 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium.
