HOUSTON, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team opened up the 2025 spring schedule Thursday in Houston, Texas at Rice. Unfortunately, it was a tough start to the season as the Owls recorded a 7-0 victory.
 
The Owls, who already had a match under their belt, jumped out to an early lead taking victories on courts 1 and 3 doubles. The match on court 2 was halted when the Owls locked up the doubles point.
 
Unfortunately, the Cardinals were unable to slow down Rice's momentum as the two teams transitioned to singles. Rice picked up straight-sets victories on courts 2, 1 and 4, respectively, to secure the overall victory.
 
Big Red will return to the court Saturday when they host Alcorn State in a doubleheader. The first match against the Lady Braves will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the afternoon match at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
