BEAUMONT, Texas - In its first game on the road since December, Lamar University (11-4, 6-0 Southland) kept up the winning ways by defeating Nicholls in Thibodaux, La. Now, the Cardinals will head out to Lake Charles, La., Saturday to meet McNeese (7-10, 2-4) at the Legacy Center. The game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and Newstalk 560 KLVI, is scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m.

The Cardinals overcame a sluggish first half to knock off Nicholls 67-53 at Stopher Gymnasium. Sabria Dean led LU with 19 points, including 17 in the second half while grabbing six rebounds. Jacei Denley picked up 13 points and stole the ball three times, which shared the lead with Taliah Hill while R'Mani Taylor tallied 10 points off the bench.
 
1500-300-200 Club's Newest Member
Dean recorded her 200th career steal Thursday evening in the contest at Nicholls. This makes her the second Cardinal to reach 1,500 points,  300 assists, and 200 steals. Cardinals Hall of Honor member Kalis Loyd was the other Cardinal to achieve the feat.
 
Another Single Digit
The Cardinals conceded nine points in the third quarter against Nicholls. This was the 16th quarter that LU's defense allowed fewer than 10 points. In the nine games that Big Red allowed single-digit quarters, Lamar is 8-1.
 
Milestone Watch - Akasha Davis
Akasha Davis needs 19 points to achieve 1,500 in her career. In 106 games to date, she has averaged 14 points per game. This season, she is second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg.
 
Not One, Not Two, But Three Winning Streaks?
The Cardinals will put three win streaks on the line against the Cowgirls. First, Big Red won its last six games dating back to Dec. 21st against Northern Colorado. Second, the Cardinals will look to extend a 15-game winning streak against McNeese. The last time LU lost to McNeese was on March 11, 2016. Finally, the Cardinals have won 16 consecutive SLC road contests. Ironically, this winning streak started 716 days ago at McNeese (Feb. 2, 2023).

With LU's current 15-game win streak against the Cowgirls, both teams have 43 wins against each other. The Cardinals' last meeting against McNeese was a 73-43 victory that saw the backcourt of Sabria Dean (14) and Jacei Denley (12) combine for 26 points.
 
About the Cowgirls
The Cowgirls suffered a 91-49 loss to Stephen F. Austin. Paris Guillory and Kyla Davis each posted 11 points while Mireia Yespes grabbed 13 rebounds. McNeese averages 63.6 ppg while allowing 65.2. In six conference games, Guillory is averaging 16.3 points per game, which is fourth in the SLC. Since her first game of the season on Dec. 4th, she has been in double figures in every game with her highest total being 26 against Northwestern State. Yespes is fourth in the Southland with 8.0 rebounds per game, which includes nine double-digit rebound games this season.
