FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University freshman punter
Chase Leon has been named Southland Conference Player of the Week announced league officials Monday morning. It is the first weekly superlative of Leon's career and the first for the Red and White this season.
LU set a school record during the 2023 campaign earning a player of the week honor in six consecutive weeks.
A native of Brisbane, Australia, Leon was recognized for his efforts in helping Lamar defeat Mississippi Valley State over the weekend. Leon played a huge role in helping the Cardinals flip the field on MVSU. He was called on five times to punt against the Delta Devils averaging better than 42 yards per punt, with one punt of more than 50 yards.
Leon is currently third in the Southland averaging better than 44.6 yards per punt with three punts of more than 50 yards on the season.
