Cardinals Hosting Vaqueros at LU Soccer Complex

BEAUMONT, Texas -The Lamar Cardinals return home to the LU Soccer Complex for a Thursday night battle with UT Rio Grande Valley at 7:00 p.m. This will be their conference home opener as they play the first of two home games this weekend.

The Cardinals were shut out by the Ladyjacks of SFA 3-0 in their first SLC game despite putting up 12 shots. LU had four players (Cena Carlson, Trinity Clark, Kamryn Harvey, and Isela Ramirez), each having two shots in the game. Maddie Rich posted three saves in goal for the Cardinals.

History vs. UTRGV
LU is 2-1-1 against the Vaqueros all-time in the history between the two programs. The Cardinals last played UTRGV twice during the 2021 season while members of the Western Athletic Conference. The last meeting between the two schools was a scoreless draw despite LU putting up 10 shots. Two weeks prior, LU blanked the Vaqueros 2-0.
 
About the Vaqueros
The Vaqueros are 4-3-2 overall and are coming off a scoreless draw against Texas A&M-Commerce in its first SLC match. UTRGV averages 1.56 goals on 15.3 shots per game in the nine games. Savannah Frisby is the leading goal scorer with four while Lisa Elowsson, Linnea Eld, Jordan Matthews, and Abbie Bailey have two each. Heiddis Sigurdardottir is second in the conference with a goals-against average of .796.
