BEAUMONT, Texas - As September rolls in, the Lamar University women's soccer team returns to the LU Soccer Complex for another Sunday matchup. This time, the Cardinals will face off with former Southland Conference foe Sam Houston at 7:00 p.m.

LU put together its season-high of 14 shots and scored a goal from
Arely Alaniz against Rice University on Thursday, but they were edged out by the Owls 2-1.
Cena Carlson led the Cardinals with three shots while Alaniz was one of five players with two.
Maddie Rich and
Taylor Howard both appeared in goal and combined to record six saves.

History vs. Sam Houston
This meeting will be the 20th all-time between the two programs dating back to 2007. LU possesses an 8-10-1 record against the Bearkats, which includes last year's 1-0 win in Huntsville. The Cardinals have won their last three matches against SHSU. The last time the two teams met in Beaumont was on Oct. 3, 2021. LU won that game 2-1 with the game-winner coming from
Isela Ramirez.

The Bearkats tied their last match against UIW 1-1. Pam Murray scored the penalty kick for SHSU in the 19th minute while Paige Fry and Cassia Souza combined to record three saves in goal. At 2-1-2, SHSU averages 2.00 goals per game on just 11.8 shots per game. Landri Townsend has the team lead in goals (three) and points (eight) while racking up two assists, which only trails teammate Ruth Larsen. Souza currently posts a goals against average of 1.26, which currently ranks sixth in Conference USA.

Back on the road again, the Cardinals travel to Mobile, Ala., to meet with South Alabama. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
