Cardinals Gearing Up for Rice

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University soccer team will hit the road again as they travel to Houston to meet up with Rice University on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

While their kickoff against Denver was delayed an hour and 45 minutes, the Cardinals would battle to a scoreless tie at halftime before the Pioneers would score three second-half goals to hand LU a 3-0 defeat. Taylor Conway and Cena Carlson each had three shots with two on goal while Arely Alaniz added two. In goal, Taylor Howard posted three saves. 

History vs. Rice
In what will mark the fourth meeting between the two programs, Rice is 3-0 all-time against the Cardinals. Ironically, Thursday's match will be exactly 10 years from their last match, which saw the Owls shutout the Cardinals 2-0. 

About Rice
The Owls are 3-1 after their 1-0 victory over UT-Rio Grande Valley. Outshooting the Vaqueros 17-10, Leah Chancey scored the game-winner in the 65th minute on assists by Taylor Rowe and Allie Love. Faith Hutchins posted five saves in the shutout win. Rice is currently scoring and conceding 1.25 goals per game. Chancey is one of four players to have a goal while her one assist has the team lead in points with three. She also has a team-high 13 shots with seven on goal.

Big Red will return to the LU Soccer Complex on Sunday, Sep. 1st against Sam Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
