Cards Set Sights on Road Trip to Abilene

BEAUMONT, Texas - After a tough season-opening loss, Lamar University's soccer team will hit the road for the first time this season for a match up with former conference foe Abilene Christian. Kick off is set for 7 pm at Elmer Gray Stadium on the ACU campus.

The Cardinals hosted #25 Texas A&M to open their season as the Aggies put together a 5-0 victory. Redshirt freshman transfer Taylor Howard would finish with six saves in her debut at LU. Taylor Conway led Big Red with three shots, including two on goal, while Kamryn Harvey, Rafiatu Alhassan, and Kaitlyn Niemeyer each took one of their own. 

History vs. Abilene Christian
This will be the 12th meeting all-time between the two teams, with the series even at a 5-5-1 record. Last season saw the Wildcats score the winning goal in the 56th minute in Beaumont by Peyton Hill for a 1-0 victory. LU's last win against ACU was a 1-0 shutout in Beaumont on Oct. 30th 2021. The last time LU traveled to Abilene saw them play to a scoreless draw with the Wildcats back on Sept. 24th, 2021. 

About the Wildcats
ACU opened their season to a scoreless draw against the UTEP. Hill led the Wildcats with three shots while Lili Ross recorded four saves. The Wildcats finished last season 7-9-2 overall while scoring and giving up 1.61 goals per game. Chayse Thorn led the Wildcats with 30 points, which composed of 14 goals and two assists while firing 45 shots, including 30 on goal. Ross posted a 2.41 goals against average making 38 saves.
