Demons Take Game 2 in Pitcher’s Duel

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University dropped a 2-0 decision to Northwestern State as the Demons evened the series Saturday evening at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The loss drops Lamar to 35-10 on the season but Big Red remains in first place in the Southland standings with a 13-4 league record.
 
Neither starter deserved to lose as Lamar's Jacob Ellis (7-1) pitched 6.0 strong innings allowing just one run on two hits with nine strikeouts. Ellis struck out the first four batters he faced and five of the first six. Kyle Moseley pitched the last 3.0 innings allowing a run on two hits with three punch outs.
 
Tyler Bryan started for the Demons and pitched 5.0 scoreless on three hits. He struck out three with a couple of walks. He was relieved by Aidan Newton who pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning surrendering just one hit to get the win. Caleb Bunch pitched the final two innings for the save.
 
The Cardinals ended the night with four hits – Brayden Evans, Zak Skinner, Austin Roccarforte and Drake Varnado each collected a hit.
 
NSU scored their two runs on four hits with an error. The Demons scored solo runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
 
The rubber game of the series has been moved to a 12:05 p.m. start with the senior recognition scheduled to begin at approximately 11:25 a.m. Game three will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI and streamed live on ESPN+.
