Cardinals Come Home Empty Against Lions

HAMMOND, La. – Lamar University came up short on Saturday in a 10-0 loss against Southeastern Louisiana in their conference regular season finale. Four Cardinal fielding errors proved to contribute to their defeat.

The Lions jumped on Big Red early as a throwing error on a steal attempt allowed a runner from third to score the opening run of the game in the bottom of the first with a fielder's choice also plating a run in the frame. The closest the Cardinals came to scoring a run in the game came in the top of the second with runners on first and second, but neither would be able to cross home plate.

SLU then broke the game open with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second as part of a four-run frame. They then added three RBI hits in the bottom of the fourth to push their advantage to ten where they would finish things off from there.

Veronica Harrison and Cameron Niedenthal each recorded singles on the day. On the mound, Emma Wardlaw was tagged with the loss after 0.1 innings of work allowing two runs on two hits and a walk. Four more Lamar pitchers followed and allowed a combined eight runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

LU returns home for their final game of the regular season against Tarleton on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the LU Softball Complex.
