BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University softball lost the second leg of their home-and-home series with UTSA as they fell 3-0 on Tuesday evening at the LU Softball Complex.
The Roadrunners were active early as they loaded the bases with no outs. Two RBI singles would plate two runs, but an outfield assist from
Shenita Tucker halted a third from crossing the plate. UTSA would score again in the top of the fourth on another RBI single to make it 3-0.
The Cardinals' best chance to score came in the bottom of the fifth with two runners on, but neither were able to come around to score. A double from
Rose Gonzales also went unrewarded in the bottom of the seventh.
Two of Lamar's three hits came from pinch runners as Gonzales (2B) and
Roxy Thompson each got on base for the Cardinals.
Sabrina Jolin got tagged with the loss for LU as she pitched four innings allowing three runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Makayla Valle pitched two innings of hitless relief while
Madison Guidry allowed just one hit in the final frame.
LU heads just across the border to play conference rival McNeese in a three-game weekend series. The first game will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. with the final two games on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
