Cardinals Season Ends in SLC Playoffs

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team's season came to an end Thursday morning in the opening round of the Southland Conference Championships. The Cardinals dropped a 4-0 decision to Bryant University – an affiliate member of the conference in men's and women's tennis.

The Cardinals wrap up the 2024 campaign with a 9-15 (.375) overall record.

Lamar's duo of senior Jayci Wong and sophomore Saloni Tamang was locked in a tight battle at No. 3 doubles, trailing just 5-4, but the Cardinals failed to pick up a win on courts 1 or 2 as Bryant took the first point of the day.

As the two teams transitioned to singles, Lamar was looking to fight back through bottom half of its order. Freshman Martina Alcaino (No. 5 singles) and Tamang (No. 6) were both headed to third sets, while sophomore Megan Do's opening set went to a tiebreak.

The Bulldogs managed to pushed their lead to 3-0 with straight set decisions at No. 1 and 4 singles forcing Lamar to have to win matches on the remaining courts to keep their season alive. It was not meant to be as Bryant took the first of the two courts headed to a third set (No. 5 singles) halting all the other matches.
