Lamar Heads Up I-45 to Meet SMU

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University continues its four-game road trip with a trip up I-45 to Dallas for a game against SMU Friday at the Moody Coliseum. The game will tip off at 4:30 p.m. and be televised on the ACC Network.

In their last game, the Cardinals fell to No. 4 Texas 95-58 in Austin at the Moody Center. Big Red outshot the Longhorns from the field (52.5%-51.6%) including a second half where they hit 64 percent and matched the Longhorns with 44 points. This also featured a third quarter where the Cardinals outscored Texas 25-24. Akasha Davis (14) and Sabria Dean (13) combined for 27 points. Davis converted 6-of-7 from the field while Dean connected on all six free throw attempts. In two games all-time against Texas, Dean has averaged 14.5 points per game.

Kashing Money in Dallas
Akasha Davis, a Wylie native, has played eight games against teams in the DFW metroplex in her career. She averaged 15.3 points per game, including three games of 20 or more. Last season, in five games, she posted 18.6 ppg with her best game being 23 points against East Texas A&M in last season's Southland Conference tournament semifinals.

All-Time vs. Mustangs
LU is 3-5 all-time against the Mustangs. It has been 11 years since the Cardinals last played SMU, who defeated them 82-79 in 2013. The Cardinals' last victory was in 1989-90 when LU won 92-75.

About the Mustangs
New members of the ACC after being in the American Athletic Conference, SMU recently traveled to Tempe, Ariz., for the Briann January Classic hosted by Arizona State. Following losses to the Sun Devils and Minnesota, the Mustangs are at 2-3, averaging 69.6 points, 41.0 rebounds, and 13.0 assists per game.

For What It's Worth Nya
Nya Robertson, a native of Ft. Worth, is leading the Mustangs in scoring with 23.8 points per game. She has scored 20+ points in four of the five games this season with her highest being 29 against Old Dominion. In the Briann January Classic, she averaged 26.5 points on 43.5 percent from the field despite SMU falling in both meetings. Sunday's game against Minnesota was the 13th straight game Robertson scored double figures dating back to last season.

The Cardinals will head to New Orleans for two games in the Big Easy Classic. LU will first take on Pacific at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29th while Saturday sees them go up against Cleveland State at 1:00 p.m.
