Cardinals Drop Match at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Lamar University volleyball fell on the road against McNeese on Thursday evening, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21).

Lamar (14-13, 6-9 SLC) hit 39-7-118 (.271) on the evening with six blocks. Lyric Jordan recorded a team-high 13 kills and tied with Keeley Nellis for the team lead in digs with 11.

McNeese (10-17, 6-9 SLC) finished the match with a hitting percentage of 26.8 percent (49-15-127). They also recorded seven aces.

The hosts got off to a fast start in the first set as they led by seven at the media timeout. Lamar attempted to close the gap but were haunted by four service errors down the stretch.

Both teams traded points for most of the second set with each team holding the lead early. A 6-2 Cowgirl run would ultimately be the difference as McNeese doubled their advantage in the match.

The Cowgirls took an early 6-2 lead in Set 3 and were able to stiff arm the Cardinals the rest of the way. Lamar tied it up late but never could break through as this year's Battle of the Border finished in an even split.

Lamar finishes the regular season on the road against Nicholls on Saturday at 1 p.m. A win and a McNeese loss would send the Cardinals to the Southland Conference tournament for the first time since 2011.
