BEAUMONT, Texas – With the start of the regular season just around the corner, the Lamar University men's basketball team will step on the court Tuesday evening to host LSU-Alexandria in an exhibition contest. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. Tuesday from the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center.
Looking to build off their best season since the 2018-19 campaign, the Cardinals posted a 19-win season last year earning the league's No. 4 overall seed in the Southland Conference tournament advancing to the tournament semifinals.
Big Red returns the heart of its' lineup from last year which includes three returning starters –
Cody Pennebaker (6-5, 194, Jr., G),
B.B. Knight (6-6, 192, Jr., G) and
Adam Hamilton (6-9, 223, Sr., C). The rest of the returning letterwinners all have starting experience on their resume –
Errol White (6-7, 205, Sr., F),
Ja'Sean Jackson (6-0, 176, Sr., G) and
Janko Bulajic (6-10, 233, Jr., F/C).
Lamar's coaching staff brought in seven newcomers during the offseason, to go along with
Jayden Barrs (6-1, 190, Fr., G) who redshirted the 2023-24 campaign. The Cardinal newcomers include
Alexis Marmolejos (6-1, 180, Jr., G),
Danquez Dawsey (6-2, 180, Sr., G),
Braden East (6-9, 238, Fr., F),
Jayden Gambrell (6-3, 170, Fr., G),
Jace Jeffries (5-10, 165, Fr., G),
Terrance Dixon, Jr. (6-8, 235, Jr., F) and
Andrew Holifield (6-10, 185, Jr., F).
Tuesday's matchup against LSUA will be just the second all time between the two schools and the first since the 2014-15 season. That contest was a regular-season game which LU won.
The Cardinals will tip off the regular season Monday, Nov. 4 against Paul Quinn College before hitting the road to College Station, Texas Monday, Nov. 11
