NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Lamar University volleyball fell to Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday evening, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22).
Lamar (11-10, 3-6 SLC) hit 26-20-122 (.049) on the evening with four aces and ten blocks.
Lyric Jordan led the Cardinals in kills with 12 while also posting ten digs.
Keeley Nellis chipped 19 digs while
Taisha Rhone had 12.
SFA (16-6, 8-1 SLC) finished with a hitting percentage of 18.7 percent (46-20-139). They also had three aces and nine blocks on the evening.
An 11-6 start from SFA allowed them to keep the Cardinals at arm's length during the first set. Three service errors and two reception errors hurt the Cardinals late in the period.
Both teams traded points early in the second set before a five-point run gave the hosts some momentum. Six kills from Jordan were not enough to keep the Cardinals afloat as they found themselves in a 2-0 hole.
Set 3 started out similarly to the second frame as the teams were tied at 12 midways through before a quick five-point burst from the Ladyjacks proved to be the difference. The Cardinals closed the gap to two late, but it was too little too late.
Lamar returns to McDonald Gym on Thursday evening as they face off against Northwestern State at 6:30 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
