Cross Country Squads Partaking in Heavily Competitive Arturo Barrios Invite

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University men's and women's cross country teams will find themselves in a heavily competitive field along with 39 other teams heading to College Station, Texas Friday for the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational. This will be the penultimate event the Cardinals will compete in before the Southland Conference Championship meet.
 
The meet will take place at Watts Cross Country Course. The men will run first at 8:30 a.m. on an 8k course while the women will follow at 9:15 a.m. with the 6k meet.
 
Along with host school TAMU, the Cardinals are joined by Abilene Christian, Arizona State, Arkansas State, Baylor, Boise State, Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, Colorado, Delaware, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Gonzaga, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, UL Lafayette, McNeese, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, New Orleans, Nicholls, North Dakota, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Rice, Sam Houston, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Texarkana, Tarleton State, TCU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Texas Tech, UT-Arlington, UTSA and Youngstown State.
 
The Cardinals last ran on Sep. 28th in Stillwater, Okla., at the Oklahoma State Jamboree. The women compiled a third place finish only trailing nationally ranked New Mexico and OSU. Nia Clatworthy's second-place finish, a personal best of 20:33.5, helped her win the conference's female runner of the week honor by finishing in between a runner from nationally ranked New Mexico and OSU. The men completed the race in eighth as Freddy Richardson led the way with a 19th-place finish at 24:21.6.
