White, Knight Set Career Highs as LU Closes Perfect Homestand

BEAUMONT, Texas – Sophomore B.B. Knight (23 points) and junior Errol White (16 points) netted career-high to guide Lamar University to a 98-73 victory over New Orleans Monday evening at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center.

Knight and White were two of four Cardinals to score in double figures for the LU as Chris Pryor scored 13 while dishing out six assists and Adam Hamilton added 10 points and pulled down four rebounds.

As a team, the Cardinals shot 33-of-61 (.541) from the field, including five three-pointers, but finished the game shooting better that 69 percent in the second half (18-of-26). Lamar made its way to the free throw line 31 times where they converted 27 attempts.

The Cardinals also held a strong advantage on the glass, 42-29, including 13 offensive boards. The rebounds on the offensive end of the court led to 21 second chance points.

Lamar received another strong effort from their reserves. The Red and White's bench outscored New Orleans' reserves, 42-10.

UNO never could find its rhythm Monday shooting just 21-of-56 (.375) from the field, and just 3-of-10 (.300) from long range. A stat made more impressive by the fact that the Privateers have the league's leading scorer – Jordan Johnson – who was also third in the Southland in three-point field goal percentage coming into the contest.

The Cardinals carried a 10-point lead into the second half, but despite the Cardinals hot shooting LU held just a four-point lead with 15:33 remaining, but that is where things began to unravel. Aided by two UNO technical fouls, the Cardinals rattled off a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 14-point lead.

After the run, the Privateers never seriously threatened as Lamar pushed its advantage to more than 20. The lead ballooned to as many as 27 before the final buzzer sounded.

The Cardinals will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on the Islanders. The game against A&M-Corpus Christi will tip off at 3:30 p.m. from the American Bank Center.
