Cardinals Set for Two Match Louisiana Trip

| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas - As one of three teams with an undefeated Southland Conference record, Lamar University's soccer team will look to extend their six-match winning streak as they will hit the road for a two-game road trip in Louisiana. LU will meet up with Nicholls at 7:00 pm on Friday night and then turn their attention to Southeastern for a Sunday meeting at 5:00 pm.

Six is Better Than Five
After a school record five straight shutouts, Big Red finally conceded last Friday night. But, behind three assists from Hollie Massey and goals from Arely Alaniz, Alana Clark, Kamryn Harvey and Isela Ramirez, the Cardinals extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-1 win over Houston Christian.

557:80
After allowing South Alabama's third goal at the 58:10 mark on Sept. 1, Nicole Panis and the Cardinals defense would go 557 minutes and 80 seconds without allowing a goal. That stretch would go into five consecutive games and 76 minutes into the game against Houston Christian. Within the Southland, LU is tied for first with five goals allowed along with UIW. But with two more games played than UIW, they're averaging .50 goals allowed per game.

Top of the Pops
Cariel Ellis, Massey, and Panis find themselves in the top three in nine of the 10 SLC soccer individual stats. Ellis leads the conference in shots (28) and game-winning goals (four) while she is second in shots on goal (14) and shots per game (2.80). Massey finds herself tied for first in assists (four) and leads in points per game (1.25) while she is second with 10 points and third in shots per game (2.75). Panis remains the conference's leader with a .508 goals against average, save percentage (.868) and shutouts (six) while second in saves (33).

History vs. Colonels
The Cardinals are 13-2-1 all-time against Nicholls and are currently in the midst of a six-match winning streak. Last season, LU defeated the Colonels twice. In Thibodaux, the Cardinals put up four goals with three of them coming from Ramirez, Laura Linares, and Cariel Ellis. One month later, Linares netted the winning goal against the Colonels in Beaumont in the 87th minute.

Meet the Colonels
Currently 1-10 overall and 0-2 in conference, the Colonels are led by Lauren Andre, who leads the team with three goals on the season. Brooke Cox has the only assist while she, Kinga Koronkiewicz, and Kaitlyn Poirrier have also scored for Nicholls. Both Megan Cook (24 saves, 3.43 GAA) and Elizabeth Zepeda (28 saves, 5.13 GAA) have combined for a goals against average of 4.27 and 52 saves.

History vs. the Lions
LU is 9-6-2 all-time against the Lions, which included a 1-0 victory down in Hammond last season. The Cardinals have won four of their last six meetings against SLU.

Meet the Lions
As of now, the Lions are 3-6 overall and 1-1 after a 1-0 win over UIW. Mya Guillory and Kelsey Fuller each have two goals while Guillory is one of five players with an assist. Olivia Griffin has a GAA of 1.48 in goal and is third in the conference with 31 saves.
