CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Lamar University got 13 kills from freshman
Lyric Jordan Thursday night, but the Cardinals struggled to get the key score when they needed it falling, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17), to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday in the Southland Conference opener.
Jordan was the lone Cardinal in double figures as the Cardinals finished the night with a .145 attack percentage (36-18-124). Jordan was also one of three Cardinals to compile double-figure kills. The Cardinals also recorded three aces and blocked eight shots on the evening.
The Islanders posted a .208 (45-19-125) attack percentage, with five aces and stopped 11 attempts at the net.
Despite a 3-0 score, the individual set scores were very close, including the first set where LU took a lead late. Unfortunately, it was the key point to extend rallies which eluded the Cards throughout the night. Lamar had a five-point rally in the first but was unable to match that for the rest of the match.
Big Red has to quickly put this one in the rearview and turn its focus to Saturday's home opener against Texas A&M-Commerce. Saturday's match will begin at 11 a.m. from McDonald Gym and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
