BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University soccer player Hollie Massey has been off to a tremendous start for the Cardinals this season, which comes on the heels of a 2022 that ended after just two games. Her play has garnered her LU's first Southland Conference Player of the Week award this season, announced Tuesday morning. Massey has scored a goal in three straight games and currently leads the Cardinals in scoring in 2023 with 6 points.
The Cheshire, England native scored a goal in each game to help lead Lamar to two shutout wins last week. Against Southern, she netted LU's third goal off the right foot in the 18th minute, which led to a 3-0 win. Then just two minutes into the second half of last Sunday's match with Louisiana, Massey scored the game-winner in what would lead to a 2-0 victory. Massey, second on the team in total shots, posted 11 in the two weekend games.
As evident by her play, Massey has been instrumental in LU's three-game winning streak to improve the Cardinals to 4-2-1. This Thursday night, Massey and the Cardinals will take on nationally ranked Xavier at 7 p.m., at the LU Soccer Complex for their final non-conference game of the season.
