BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's soccer team hoped to kick off their 2023 campaign on the right note in front of a sold-out crowd at the LU Soccer Complex. But while the shorthanded Cardinals were able to outshoot Abilene Christian University 11-7 throughout the contest, it was a 56th minute goal by the Wildcats that would prove to be the difference in a 1-0 defeat.
Arely Alaniz led LU with three shots, including two on goal while Kamryn Harvey and Kolbi Coleman each recorded two shots on goal. Nicole Panis would have three saves on the game for the Cardinals. The Wildcats were able to have nine corner kicks in contrast to the Cardinals' five.
LU will look to bounce back as they begin a two-game road trip next Thursday night to Huntsville to meet up with Sam Houston at 7 p.m.
