| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - Following a successful rookie season as Lamar University women's soccer head coach, Nathan Kogut and his Cardinals' squad will look to duplicate their Southland Conference championship season from last year as they head into the 2023 campaign. The Cardinals recently released their schedule, which will include 10 home games and nine road contests.

But before LU can kick off their season, they will have two exhibition games at the LU Soccer Complex. First, they will take on LSU-Eunice (Aug. 6) before having heir annual Red-White scrimmage (Aug. 13). Officially, the season kicks off on Aug. 18th as the Cardinals host Abilene Christian at 7:00 PM. Two road games will follow to end the month of August with trips to Huntsville to meet Sam Houston (Aug. 24) and Grambling to meet the Tigers (Aug. 27).

As September begins, Big Red will alternate home and away contests beginning with a home contest against South Alabama (Sept. 1). LU will close out the non-conference season with Southern (Sep. 7) and Xavier University (Sept. 14) while heading out to meet Tarleton State (Sep. 3) and Louisiana (Sep. 10).  By the time September 17th rolls around is when LU will begin conference play as the reigning champs. UIW will be the first test for LU on that date when Big Red travels to San Antonio.

After hosting Houston Christian on the 24th, the Cardinals head out to Louisiana for two games. LU closes out September at Nicholls (Sep. 29) before opening October against Southeastern Louisiana (Oct. 1). From then on until the conference tournament, LU will have four of the last six regular season games at home as they host Northwestern State (Oct. 6), UIW (Oct. 13), Texas A&M-Commerce (Oct. 15) and SLU (Oct. 27) while traveling to face McNeese (Oct. 8) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Oct. 20). This year's conference tournament will take place in Corpus Christi and will run from Nov. 1st-5th.

"I am really excited about our 2023 schedule," said Coach Kogut.  "I believe we will be thoroughly tested in our nonconference slate, which will prepare us for Southland Conference play. We have some great home games in front of our awesome fans and road trips that will challenge our team in preparation for what we hope is another fun postseason run"

LU is coming off last season in which they won 15 games to claim the SLC regular season and tournament championships, which led to an NCAA tournament appearance. The Cardinals are expecting 17 players to return to the program while also welcoming in 12 newcomers.
