BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University took on the Southland Conference front runners – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Friday but dug itself an early hole and couldn't recover. LU dropped a 6-1 decision to the Islanders Friday afternoon at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex. The loss dropped Lamar to 10-10 on the season and 2-4 in league play, while the Islanders (20-2) improved to 7-0 in conference contests.
The Islanders jumped out to an early lead winning the first two doubles matches which forced the third match to be halted. A&M-Corpus Christi never took its foot off the accelerator picking up wins on the first five singles courts to finish before Lamar could respond.

Ana Jolic got the Cardinals on the scoreboard at line 3 singles. Jolic bested the Islanders' Sofia Pinto, 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 for the point.

Elena Rubio also pushed her opponent to a third set at No. 6 singles, but came up just short to Kateryna Rublevska, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3.
The Cardinals return to action Sunday to close out the regular season against New Orleans. The match will serve as the Senior Day for the Cardinals. Senior Day festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the start of the match to begin after that.
