BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University forced a match to a third set and had two sets go to a tiebreak before being deciding, but unfortunately UT Arlington recorded a 7-0 victory Sunday afternoon in Arlington.

After taking a 1-0 lead with their victory in singles, the Mavericks kept the pressure on in singles. UTA won the first set on four of the first five courts, but sophomore
Haruki Omori-Cowie was locked in a battle at No. 6 singles against the Mavs' Ricardo Alban. Unfortunately, Alban wriggled off the hook to pick up the first set, 7-6 (8-6), and held on for a close victory in the second set.

Sophomore
Max Amling took the opening set from the Mavericks' Anton Shepp, 6-3, but that would be as close as Amling would get as Shepp rallied in the second and won the match in the third, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Cardinals (8-8) will open Southland Conference play Sunday when they travel to Thibodaux, La., to take on Nicholls. The match against the Colonels is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
