Assistant Coach Hires

Rossomando Completes Coaching Staff

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Daryl Daleen (co-special teams coordinator/ILBs), Todd Macon (running backs), Andrew Sparano (tight ends) and Dave Stedman (co-special teams coordinator/OLBs) have been named assistant coaches announced Lamar University head coach Pete Rossomando Wednesday afternoon. With the four additions, the Cardinals' first-year head coach has completed his coaching staff.

The incoming hires bring with them nearly 40 years of experience working at numerous levels of the sport from high school all the way up to the NCAA Division I level, and their connections to the sport extend to all parts of the country including the southeast, west, midwest and northeast.

"It's great to have your staff in place, especially for the players," said Rossomando. "It's good for them to know they have a position coach, to know they have someone to go to if they have an issue. It's great to be altogether and start to put the plan together of what we want to do in all three phases of the game."

Daleen began his coaching career in 2004 at Newberry College and has worked at every level of the game from high school to NCAA Division I in the past two decades, including two stints with Coach Rossomando first at New Haven and then at Central Connecticut State.

Originally joining the UNH staff as the special teams coordinator/defensive line coach, he was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2013. During his time with the Chargers, Daleen helped build one of the top defenses at the NCAA Division II level. In 2012, Daleen produced a conference defensive player of the year, conference defensive lineman of the year and an honorable mention All-American.

Success on the defensive side of the ball has been a constant under Daleen's direction. The Chargers led the league in sacks in three consecutive seasons, and this came following a stretch where he served as coordinator at Pikeville (Ky.) College where his squad ranked among the league leaders in sacks and forced turnovers.

Daleen followed Rossomando to Central Connecticut State where he helped produce the best run in school history. The Blue Devils would go on to win a Northeast Conference title (with a perfect 6-0 record) and advance to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the first time in program history.

Macon jumped into his coaching career following a successful playing career that led him to the Arena Football League. A former standout at Liberty University, Macon has spent the entire part of his young career focused on the backfield. Getting his start at Briar Cliff University he coached both backs and return specialists. Macon was at BCU for one season for taking a similar role at Colorado Mesa University where he would spend the next two seasons.

Macon made the move to Mary Hardin-Baylor prior to the 2022 season where he continued to coach running backs along with return specialists. In addition to working with the Crusaders, Macon also was given the responsibility of recruiting West Texas.

A former player for Rossomando at New Haven, Stedman comes to Beaumont from New Brittain, Conn. where he has spent the previous nine seasons, and continued to work his way up the ranks. Stedman began his career as the Blue Devils running backs coach for the first two seasons. During that time, Stedman produced two all-conference selections.

Stedman remained in that position for two seasons before switching to the defensive side of the ball coaching the defensive line. In 2017, Stedman took on the added role of Blue Devils recruiting coordinator. During his time coaching the defensive line, Stedman produced six more All-Northeast Conference selections. In addition to his other responsibilities, Stedman took on the added role special teams coordinator in 2019.

Sparano makes his way to the Golden Triangle after spending the 2022 campaign in Murfreesboro as an assistant at Chowan University. Sparano was hired to work with the team's offensive line and tight ends. During his lone season with Chowan, he produced three all-conference selections and helped coach the team to a CIAA North division title for the first time in program history.

Sparano moved to Murfreesboro from the junior college ranks where he spent the previous nine seasons at Feather River College and Chabot Junior College. Between those two stops, he served as offensive coordinator and worked directly with the offensive line, quarterbacks, running backs and returners. He was coordinator for the first undefeated season in Feather River's history.

"Every one of these guys has either a personal connection to me or the coordinators, and I think that is a great starting point," said Rossomando. "That really helps build camaraderie among the staff. Each one brings different things to the table on the offense and defensive side of the ball. They can each have a voice in the room and I'm comfortable with the coordinators making final decisions."
