Cardinals Return Home for 2023 Finale

| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas - Back in Neches Arena after five games away from Beaumont, Lamar University's women's basketball will try to ring in the new year on a happy note as they will host the final home game for the year of 2023. To get set for conference play, the Cardinals will take on Loyola Marymount out of Los Angeles Saturday at 2:00 p.m, as part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.

TOUGH CHALLENGE IN FT. WORTH
Although the Cardinals battled with TCU, they couldn't keep up with the three-point shooting of the Horned Frogs as they would fall 68-51. The Cardinals trailed by double-digits early only to rally to cut the deficit to 33-27 at the break. But TCU outscored LU 35-24 in the second half to complete the victory.

I REFUSE TO BOW DOWN TO THE PRINCE
Akasha Davis faced a tough challenge of having to go up against one of the top two leading scorers in the Big XII in Sedona Prince. Despite being five inches shorter, Davis managed to match Prince scoring 15 points while also grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds to complete her 21st double-double. This would earn her fourth career Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award.

NJ & MCQUEEN
Malay McQueen and NJ Weems combined for 25 points off the bench to spark LU. McQueen connected on three treys and finished with 13 while NJ Weems went 5-of-6 from the field and tallied 12 points. Both totals were season highs.

HISTORY VS. THE LIONS
This will mark the first meeting all-time between the two schools.

MEET THE LIONS
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Lions arrive to Beaumont at 5-6 overall. They're coming off a 77-74 win over Cal State-Northridge, which saw Soufia Inoussa lead with a season-high 19 points and five steals for the game. The Lions average Averaging 64.7 points per game while giving up 64.6.  Averaging 12.0 ppg in her last two contests, Alexis Mark currently leads LMU in scoring (11.7 ppg). She has appeared in double-figures  five times this season with a season of 24 against Denver.

UP NEXT FOR LU
Not only will 2024 start, but so will Southland Conference play as LU plays host to UIW this Thursday at 7:00 P.M.
