Cardinals Open Longwood MTE

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – It is going to be a busy Thanksgiving weekend for the Lamar University men's basketball team as the Cardinals (2-2) have traveled to Farmville, Va., to compete in the Longwood MTE. The three-day tournament will see the Cardinals play three games in less than 72 hours.

The multi-team event will consist of host Longwood, LU, Bethune-Cookman and Delaware State. All three games will take place at the Joan Perry Brock Center in Farmville.

The Cardinals will tip things off Friday against Bethune-Cookman Friday (4:30 p.m.), followed by a game against Longwood Saturday (2 p.m.) and closing things out Sunday against Delaware State (noon).

The Cardinals are 2-2 (.500) on the season but looking to erase the bitter memory from their last time out. After leading by as many as 18 at Pacific, the Tigers rallied to hit the game-winning basket with 14 seconds remaining.

Bethune-Cookman enters the tournament with a 3-1 record. The Wildcats have rattled off three consecutive wins after a season-opening loss at Minnesota.

It is a similar story for Longwood who holds an identical 3-1 record after winning three-straight games. The Lancers' lone loss on the season came at St. Bonaventure, but they have since rattled off wins against St. Mary's College (Md.), UMES and North Carolina Central.

The Cardinals close out the three-day tournament Sunday against Delaware State. It has been a tough start to the season for DSU (1-4). The Hornets have played a tough non-conference schedule through five games facing Penn State, Texas, in-state rival Delaware and Grambling State.

The Cardinals are a combined 2-0 all-time against the other three teams in the field with wins over Bethune-Cookman (1987-88) and Delaware State (2015-16). Saturday's contest against Longwood will be the first on the hardwood.

Each game of the tournament will be televised on ESPN+
