BEAUMONT, Texas – Seven kills from freshman Taisha Rhone and 10 digs from Kaeden Robinson were not enough as the Cardinals fell at home against McNeese, 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-17), Thursday evening.
Before the match, the Cardinals honored its two seniors, Wiktoria Warpechowska and TBD, in their second-to-last match at McDonald Gym.
Lamar (1-25/1-14 SLC) finished the evening 24-25-97 (-.010) from the floor along with seven aces. However, 25 attack errors cost the Cardinals dearly.
The Cowgirls ended the match with an attack rate of 27.1 percent (36-13-85). They also recorded five blocks to go with nine aces.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair early before 13-6 McNeese run prompted a Cardinal timeout. Lamar brought it back to a two-point deficit, but a couple of late service and reception errors doomed their chances.
An early 6-1 Cowgirls lead in the second set was answered by eight straight points from the Cardinals. Eight attack errors in the set came back to bite Lamar, however, as McNeese would finish the set on an 11-1 run.
Lamar would jump out to an advantage in the third set before an unsuccessful challenge appeared to change the momentum as the Cowgirls would later reel of the final five points of the match.
The Cardinals are set to play their home finale on Saturday as they face off against Nicholls State for Homecoming weekend. The match will take place at McDonald Gym at 11 a.m.
