BEAUMONT, Texas - As the cross country season nears the finish line, the men's and women's teams of Lamar University are set to run in the penultimate race before the Southland Conference Championships. This Saturday, the Cardinals will run in the Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.
In their last meet, the Cardinals ran in the Chile Pepper Festival. The women began the day with a seventh place finish in the Harter's Habanero 5k with 241 points while the men saw a 17th place finish in the McDonnell Memorial 8k.
For the women's team,
Nia Clatworthy posted a 13th place finish at 17:20.2, to lead all of the Cardinal women. This performance would earn her SLC Women's Runner of the Week honors. The last meet saw a few Cardinals make their debuts as
Cara Inch (18:04.3) and
Annabel Hobday (18:06.4) would finish 40th and 42nd respectively while
Freddy Richardson led all Cardinal male runners posting 22nd at 24:51.7.
Big Red will be one of 45 teams competing in this event along with TAMU, Arkansas State, Baylor, Boston College, Connecticut, Eastern Michigan, Elon (Women), Georgia Tech, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Indiana, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, Louisville, LSU, Marshall, McNeese State, New Mexico (Men), New Mexico State, Nicholls State, North Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Rice, SMU (Women), South Dakota State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, TAMU – Corpus Christi, TAMU-Texarkana, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, Toledo, Tulane, UCF (Women's), UCLA, Utah Valley, UT-Arlington, UTEP, UTRGV, UTSA, and Youngstown State.
The meet will be ran at the Watts Country Course. The men's 8k will first up at 8:30 a.m while the women will run their 6k meet at 9:15 a.m.
