Volleyball Continues Road Swing

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – While the Lamar University volleyball team will remain within the Lone Star State this week, the Cardinals will continue their long road swing with four matches over the course of the next four days. The Cardinals upcoming trip to Prairie View A&M and UT Arlington will mark nine consecutive matches away from the Golden Triangle.

Riding their biggest wave of momentum in three seasons, the Cardinals (4-3) enter the week looking for their fourth-straight win having outscored their last three opponents by a score of 9-3. For the Cardinals to extend that win streak they will have to get by Prairie View A&M.

The Panthers (1-10) have gotten out to a tough start in 2022 having dropped 10 of their first 11 matches with the lone win being a 3-0 decision over Huston-Tillotson last week. PVAMU will host Houston Baptist Tuesday before taking on LU Wednesday (6 p.m.).

In an odd twist, Wednesday's match will be the first of two consecutive against the Panthers. The Cardinals will turn around and face them again Friday at the UTA Invitational in Arlington. Friday's match against PVAMU will kick off the three-match stretch in two days for the Red and White. Big Red will also face New Orleans (non-conference, Saturday, 11 a.m.) and UT Arlington (Saturday, 6:30 p.m.).

The Cardinals are 23-0 all-time against PVAMU but Wednesday's match will be the first time the two have met in Prairie View since the 2000 season. The series dates back to the 1987 season.

One of four matches this year against the Privateers, UNO enters the week with a 5-4 (.556) overall record with one of those losses coming this season (3-1 at UNA Volleyball Classic). The Privateers are in the midst of their best stretch of the season having won three straight.

The Cardinals lead the all-time series against UNO, 28-19, and Big Red's victory at the beginning of the month put an end to a three-match slide to New Orleans.

LU will close out the UTA Invitational against the tournament-host Mavericks. Similar to UNO, the Mavericks enter the week boasting a 5-4 (.556) record. UTA is also riding the wave of a three-match win streak. The Mavericks lead the all-time series over LU, 38-26 (.594), with the majority of those meetings coming when UTA was still a member of the Southland Conference.

All matches of the tournament will be played at the College Park Center in Arlington. Saturday's match against UT Arlington will streamed live on ESPN+.
