BEAUMONT, Texas – For the second time in as many days, LU head men's basketball coach
Alvin Brooks has announced an addition to his roster, with the signing of
James Spencer III from Brooklyn Park, Minn. A high school teammate of another LU signee,
Cody Pennebaker, Spencer moves the Cardinals incoming class to 10, with six of the those coming from the prep ranks.
"James Spencer is another talented addition to this roster," said Brooks. "He's a big body, physical type player. We really wanted someone else who could give us a presence in the post. He was the starting center on his high school state championship team that played with
Cody Pennebaker. He's a guy that can come into our program, come off the bench and be a star in his role and really help us on the front line."
Spencer used his size to wreak havoc on opponents at both ends of the floor. As a senior for Park Center, he was a double-double man averaging 11 points and 11 rebounds per game in his final season. Spencer was a key factor in PCHS near perfect run (31-1) to the Minnesota state title in 2021-22, which included an undefeated district mark.
Spencer played a key role in the title game for Park Center. One of the state's top power forwards, he grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive side of the ball, as PCHS held off a late charge from the then defending state champions.
Spencer finished his high school career rated at the 77
th prospect in the state of Minnesota, and the No. 15 power forward in the class.
