BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's women's soccer team had an inter squad scrimmage on Wednesday night at the LU Soccer Complex. For three 25-minute periods, the Cardinals gave their fans an early glimpse of the 2023 squad.
Interchanging teams per period, LU Black rallied from one goal down in the first period to score two goals in the third for a 2-1 win against LU White.
Hollie Massey scored for LU White while
Alana Clark and
Isela Ramirez scored for LU Black.
Kolbi Coleman and
Christine Kitaru collected an assist in the game while
Nicole Panis (one save) and
Morgan McBride (six saves) combined for seven total saves in the contest.
"We learned that we have enough people to form two quality, even teams," said head coach
Nathan Kogut. "They were able to put some balls into the net. We can rotate people between two different groups. We basically had six different teams out there playing the way that we wanted to play. It was really, really good to see the partnerships start forming with different people in different spots. They played well and it was a great way to finish our preseason and prepare for Sunday."
The Cardinals now turn to their home opener against the Houston Cougars at 7:30 PM on Sunday night.
