STEPHENVILLE Texas – Lamar University softball dropped an 8-1 decision to Tarleton State at the Tarleton Softball Complex Saturday afternoon.
The game started out promising as sophomore infielder Sam Bean singled through the left side to extend her on-base streak in WAC play to 19 games, dating back to the first WAC series at the beginning of March. She also extended her hit streak in WAC play to five games.
The game quickly went south for the Cardinals (10-33, 5-16 in WAC play) when the Texans (29-21, 14-10 in WAC play) scored six runs in the first and two in the second. Freshman pitcher Haila Linton entered the circle in the third inning. The Texans would not score another run as Linton shut the Tarleton State offense down for the remaining four innings.
LU would avoid the shutout by scoring in the third inning. Junior infielder Nicolette Ramirez produced a one-out double to left field before scoring on an RBI single from senior infielder Kaylee Ancelot. Ramirez produced three extra-base hits during the series in Stephenville, and extends her on-base streak to six games. Ancelot also extends her on-base streak to five games.
Big Red has now completed its road schedule in the regular season. The Cardinals will finish up the regular season with a five-game home stand. LU will host Texas Southern for a doubleheader Tuesday. First pitch of game one is set for 3 p.m.
